Daily Fantasy – Wednesday March 1: Stacking Up on Tampa

Wednesday features only two matchups, as the defending cup champions, the Pittsburgh Penguins, take on elite opposition in the Chicago Blackhawks. Carolina will also play for the second time in as many nights, as they take on a hot Tampa Bay Lightning squad.

The Pens & Blackhawks matchup should be interesting as the teams have yet to play one another this season. Both sit in the top five in the league, as Pittsburgh is in third with 84 points with Chicago trailing by one. The game will be the second of a back-to-back for the Pens, which could make a difference depending on whether a fresh Fleury will still be on the roster after the trade deadline comes and goes.

The Hurricanes will also be finishing a back-to-back, with Eddie Lack expected to get the start. Lack has posted a weak .883 save percentage this season, going 2-4-1. There is a high chance that his rough season continues against a Tampa team that 6-2-2 in their last ten, and coming off a 5-1 blowout of the Ottawa Senators.

The Lineup

C – T. Johnson (TB) – $5,500

Johnson like many of his teammates, is coming off a big game where he notched two assists, a power play point, and four SOG. With favorable odds to stay hot against the lowly Hurricanes, pick up Johnson along with a few of his teammates.

C – B. Point (TB) – $4,000

The young Lightning star is on a serious hot streak with points in six of his last seven game. At a low cost, Point is a great center option.

W – A. Killorn (TB) – $4,600

Playing on the same line as the aforementioned Point, Killorn is also in for a big night against the Canes.

W – J. Drouin (TB) – $5,400

Keeping on the streak of Tampa Bay players, Drouin has great potential to rack in points Wednesday against Carolina. He put up three assists in the previous game, all on the power play.

W – P. Hornqvist (PIT) – $6,500

Breaking from the Tampa trend, Hornqvist has been one of the most productive wingers this year playing on a line with Evgeni Malkin. He’s a great bet to perform, while also giving you a little more diversity in your lineup.

D – V. Hedman (TB) – $6,600

Tampa’s #1 D-man, Hedman has been nothing but a beast this season. With 51 points in just 58 games, the 2009 second overall pick is set to perform Wednesday.

D – B. Seabrook (CHI) – $4,400

Blackhawks defensemen Seabrook comes surprisingly cheap at only $4,400. This is a great buy low opportunity, so you can spend your budget elsewhere.

G – A. Vasilevskiy (TB) – $8,200

Andrei Vasilevskiy is finally the undoubted number one goalie for the Tampa Bay Lightning. He responded to the Ben Bishop trade by only allowing one goal against the Senators on Monday. Expect him to put up a similar performance against the Hurricanes.

Util – J. Schultz (PIT) – $4,800

Taking up the final spot on this roster in Pittsburgh’s Justin Schultz. The Penguins D-man ranks fourth out of all defensemen in +/-, which he has followed up with 39 points so far on the season. With Kris Letang possibly out of the lineup due to injury, Schultz has the opportunity to lead the Pens defensive core against the Blackhawks.

Daily Fantasy – Tuesday, February 28

We’ve got a jam packed Tuesday night as 24 teams play. Look for a high scoring affair between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Dallas Stars, as the Pens sit in first in the NHL with 3.48 goals per game and Dallas is second last in the league in goals against per game. Also be prepared for an exciting matchup between the Calgary Flames and LA Kings as both teams are in the middle of Western Conference wild card race. Metropolitan division rivals Rangers and Capitals face off at Madison Square Garden, as Pittsburgh, Columbus, and the Rangers are all within seven points of the league leaders.

The Lineup

C – Sean Monahan (CGY) – $5,600

The Flames’ star center has been on a hot streak of late with five points in the last four games. Calgary is also riding a four game win streak, and will be looking to continue that trend against Pacific division rivals, the LA Kings.

C – Ryan Spooner (BOS) – $3,800

Like the Bruins, Spooner is on a hot streak with nine points in nine games. They are facing weak competition against the Arizona Coyotes, who have recently traded depth center Martin Hanzal.

W – Wayne Simmonds (PHI) – $6,300

The Philadelphia power forward is on a torrid goal scoring pace this season, look for that continue against the lowly Avalanche.

W – Jake Guentzel (PIT) – $4,600

As Pittsburgh faces off against the defensively weak Stars, many Pittsburgh players are carrying a high price tag tonight. Guentzel is a great, low cost option, as you can bet he will piggyback on line mate Crosby

W –  Mitchell Marner (TOR) – $5,800

Mitch Marner returns from an upper body injury to take on the San Jose Sharks. The Leafs are in the middle of the playoff race, so expect it to be an intense game where Marner can shine.

D – PK Subban (NSH) – $5,300

Nashville allstar Subban is on a deep point streak with twelve points in his last nine games and points in seven of those nine. Nashville takes on a weaker Sabres team, Subban will take advantage.

D – Torey Krug (BOS) – $5,400

Like Spooner, Krug should be able to cash in as the Bruins take on the Arizona Coyotes.

G – Braden Holtby (WAS) – $7,600

Holtby has only lost one game in his last thirteen starts, and should succeed facing a tough Rangers team. New York is coming off a 5-2 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets and I expect that losing streak to continue.

Util – Leon Draisaitl (EDM) – $5,600

The Oilers’ star has taken off during the second half of the season. Draisaitl put up two points in his last game against the St. Louis Blues, and that should continue against a Blues goaltending duo that ranks 28th in the NHL in save percentage.

Daily Fantasy – Monday, February 27

*All DFS Lineup suggestions from Third Line Grinder use standard DraftKings rules, player prices, etc. The following picks and information are for Monday, February 27.

This Monday, there are only three games occurring, as Montreal takes on New jersey, Ottawa visits Tampa, and the Kings meet the Wild in Minnesota.

I would recommend staying away for Devils players tonight, as they are 0-2 against the Canadiens this season with only 3 goals across those games. Montreal is eighth in the league for goals against per game with only 2.55 and the Devils offense ranks third last in the league at only 2.28 goals for per game. I like Montreal players for tonight’s matchup, as they have 8 goals between the two games against NJ this season.

The Senators/Tampa matchup is intriguing for tonight as Ottawa fighting to stay in a playoff spot and Tampa is trying to tighten the seven point gap between themselves and the second wild card spot in the East. The season series between these two teams is tied at 1-1, with Tampa winning the first matchup 4-1 and the Sens taking the second 5-2. The Sens are down both Bobby Ryan and Mark Stone, with Mike Hoffman listed as questionable. With all these injuries, I believe the Bolts will come out on top in this matchup.

The most interesting matchup is between the LA Kings and Minnesota Wild. The season series is tied 1-1 between these Western Conference teams, with a collective 16 goals scored in those two games. The one catalyst will be Jonathan Quick, as he has finally come back from a groin injury suffered during the first game of the season.

The Lineup

C – J. Carter (LA) – $7,200

The Kings star is sitting in second in league scoring with 30 goals on the year. Expect this number to rise tonight against the Wild.

C – K. Turris (OTT) – $5,800

With the Sens without many star players, expect first line center Turris to take a leadership role against the Lightning. With a goal and an assist last game facing the Bolts, I believe he can put up similar numbers.

W – A. Shaw (MON) – $3,700

The Canadiens’ grinder is coming off a two point night against the Maple Leafs on Saturday night, and is a great buy low option against a weak Devils team.

W – N. Niederreiter (MIN) – $5,500

The Wild winger has been flying under the radar as a top point performer over the last few months. He is a great option at a relatively low price, considering recent performance.

W – O. Palat (TB) – $5,000

With the Sens down multiple top scorers, I think the Lightning will come out on top in this matchup and Palat will be large beneficiary. Look for the Tampa winger to get his name on the scoresheet.

D – S. Weber (MON) – $6,000

The Montreal blueliner is averaging 3.6 fantasy points per game on DraftKings, and I expect higher numbers against the Devils. Look for a big night from the big D-man.

D – R. Suter (MIN) – $4,900

The Wild assistant captain should have a solid night against the Kings. Suter consistently puts up blocks and a great plus/minus which will be an asset for your lineup.

G – C. Price (MON) – $7,800

Price is coming off a four straight game streak of only allowing 2 goals, look for this streak to continue in a great matchup against the Devils.

UTIL – B. Point (TB) – $3,900

The young Lightning player should have a great night against an understaffed Senators lineup. At a great price, Point is a solid value player to add to your lineup.
